Prof. Vasilis Ntziachristos, coordinator of GLUMON, has been elected to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, one of the most prestigious academic institutions in Bavaria. This distinction recognizes his outstanding contributions to biomedical imaging and his pioneering work at the interface of engineering, physics, and medicine.
As Director of the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging at Helmholtz Munich and Chair of Biological Imaging at the Technical University of Munich, Prof. Ntziachristos has played a leading role in advancing innovative imaging technologies. His research has significantly enhanced the ability to visualize biological processes in vivo, contributing to improved diagnostics and a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms.
The election to the Academy highlights not only his individual achievements but also the strength of interdisciplinary research at our institute and across Helmholtz Munich. It underscores the importance of collaborative approaches in addressing complex biomedical challenges.
In addition to Prof. Ntziachristos, Prof. Maria-Elena Torres-Padilla and Prof. Fabian Theis have also been elected to the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, further reflecting the breadth and excellence of research at Helmholtz Munich.
